What is Cortagen?
Cortagen is one of the short peptide bioregulators developed by Vladimir Khavinson’s group in St. Petersburg. It was designed from the amino-acid composition of Cortexin, a cerebral cortex polypeptide preparation, and is associated with central and peripheral nervous tissue.
How it is understood to work
Proposed activity centers on regulating gene expression in neural cells; studies from the originating group report changes in expression of genes related to cell proliferation and stress responses. Receptor-level targets have not been identified.
Research status
Animal studies have examined peripheral nerve regeneration after injury and markers of neuroprotection, and there is cardiac gene-expression work in rodents. The evidence is preclinical and mostly from a single research network.

Handling & storage
Supplied as a lyophilized powder; store unopened vials at -20C away from light, and keep any reconstituted solution refrigerated at 2-8C for short-term use.
Concentration check: adding 2 ml of bacteriostatic water to one 20 mg vial gives 10 mg/ml. The Research Lab calculator in your dashboard works this out for any volume.
Questions
Is Cortagen related to the adrenal cortex?
No. The name refers to the cerebral cortex; Cortagen was modeled on the brain-derived preparation Cortexin.
How does Cortagen differ from Pinealon?
Both are short CNS-associated bioregulators, but Cortagen is the tetrapeptide Ala-Glu-Asp-Pro while Pinealon is the tripeptide Glu-Asp-Arg, and they are studied in different neural models.
How much Cortagen is in this kit?
10 vials of 20 mg each, so 200 mg in total. The lab testing section above shows what the brand’s tested vial actually contained.
